Deoghar, March 16: A marathon ‘Run-a-thon’ is scheduled to be held in Deoghar on March 19 as a part of the G20 Summit. The marathon is to take place under the Ministry of Culture and has been named ‘Sansad Khel Mahotsav’.
Speaking to Lagatar24.com, a member of the organising committee, Sarika Sah, said that the ‘Run’ will begin from RK Mission School gate on Sunday morning. There are different barrel lengths for men and women. Men will have to cover at least 10 kilometres whereas women will cover only five kilometres.
According to the programme, there will be 20 daises and around 200 artists will perform various cultural programmes during the marathon. Starting from the RK Mission, the run will proceed to Jatahi, turns right towards Bara Massiha, Ambedkar Chowk, and then cross the Sat Sung chowk passing rail overbridge.
Men and women will separate from each other at Sankh more. The female participants will turn left towards Bajla chowk while the males will continue straight towards Koriyasa and move towards Bajla Chowk where they will meet the female participants. After this, the participants will move towards the Hadadiya pool via Bajarangi chowk and Patel Chowk. At the Haddaiya pool, the participants will move in two directions.
The registration for the marathon has started. Several counters have been opened in the districts to obtain registration forms. The last date for registration is March 17. Participants must report to the RK Mission School’s ground at 5:00 am on March 19. The participants will receive a T-shirt. Also, the winners will be given cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000.
Notably, the female participants will start running before the males and will cover just half the distance to be covered by men. Reacting to this privilege for the women participants, Sarika Sah said, “Women are not discriminated against or underestimated but to manage the event and to avoid any type of chaos and hustle. An amount of 10 rupees will be donated to cancer patients for each registration raised during the event.
Moreover, Alok Mallik, president of the Santal Pargana Chamber of Commerce & Industries claims that holding such an event would attract attention.
