Dhanbad, March 25: A fire in a five-storey Mangal apartment located in Matkuria area under Bank More police station in the late evening of Friday triggered major panic in the district.

The fire broke out in the apartment’s roof-based telecom company tower and soon took devastating shape before the firefighting team reached the spot and controlled it completely.  Having seen the fire on the roof, the residents of the five-storey apartment flats came out safely in panic.

District fire officer Laxaman Prasad said that after getting information at 10.17 pm his team reached the spot in six minutes at around 10.22 pm and checked the fire from taking dangerous shape in 10 minutes operation by enforcing two fire tender vehicles.

“ Fire could have inflicted major damage but  the firefighting team averted the situation with timely action.” said Laxaman Prasad.
On getting this information, Dhanbad sadar MLA Raj Sinha and Bank More police station officer in charge PK Singh also reached the spot and assessed the impact of the fire in the apartment.

The residents of the apartment informed the MLA that the telecom company tower on the roof caught fire due to a short circuit in the generator kept near it. Having seen the fire, residents raised the alarm and informed the fire office.

In the last three months, this was the 3rd fire incident in the apartments of Dhanbad. On the night of January 27, five people including a doctor couple died in Hazra Memorial Hospital while on January 30 evening 14 people were charred to death in Ashirwad Tower under the Bank More police station.
