Ranchi, April 8: In an incident of ‘mob lynching’ in the outskirt of Jharkhand capital, villagers beat a youth to death. The victim has been identified as Wasid Ansari (25).
The incident took place at Mahua Toli in Chanho, about 20 km from the Jharkhand capital. The reason behind the mob lynching is not clear so far as two contradicting statements are coming.
According to a locality resident, the mob lynching was fall out of a theft attempt by Ansari and his two friends two days ago.
“On Thursday night Ansari entered the grocery shop with his two friends for theft when the incident took place. As the trio was inside the shop, the shop owner got up and raised an alarm. Sensing trouble, Ansari’s two friends escaped before the arrival of villagers but Ansari was caught. Villagers tied Ansari with a tree and beat him up black and blue. As police came to know about this, it rescued the youth and admitted at RIMS. At RIMS the youth succumbed to his injury on Friday night. Police arrested three tribals in this connection,” the resident said.
S.P. (rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the death but did not accept it a case of mob lynching.
“Urge for smoking marijuana claimed the life of the youth. The incident took place when he had gone to collect marijuana from a crop field. Three persons have been arrested in this connection. The incident left families in the lurch. One family lost a son and another family lost peace after its family members were arrested in the murder case,” Alam said.
It cannot be said an incident of mob lynching as the youth died at hospital while undergoing treatment, he said.
Ansari’s family members said it was a fall out of personal enmity.
