New Delhi, April 14: Hardik Pandya, captain of the Gujarat Titans, was penalised Rs 12 lakh for having a sluggish over rate against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL intends to have games last three hours and twenty minutes, but sluggish overrate is proving to be a problem with some games lasting longer than four hours.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Pandya was fined Rs. 12 lakh,” an IPL media advisory said on Friday.
On Thursday, the defending champion Gujarat Titans defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets thanks to Mohit Sharma’s 2/18 and Shubman Gill’s 49-ball 67.
Gujarat Titans’ third victory of the year propelled them into third place in the standings, passing Punjab Kings, who have four points after just as many games.
