School recruitment scandal: CBI raids TMC leaders’ houses

Kolkata, April 15: In connection with the school job recruitment scandal, CBI investigators conducted raids on the residences of TMC lawmakers Jibankrishna Saha and Bibhas Adhikari on Saturday in West Bengal’s Murshidabad and Birbhum districts, respectively.

According to a CBI officer, a team visited Saha’s home in Burwan, Murshidabad district, accompanied by CRPF forces, and recovered a bag full of papers suspected to be connected to the scam.

The luggage was discovered in a jungle not far from Saha’s home, the official reported.

The property in Nalhati in Birbhum as well as Adhikari’s locked flat on Amherst Street in the city were both searched by the CBI. The search took more than four hours, and papers and other documents were seized from the location as well.

Adhikari was in his home in Nalhati town when the raid took place, and  was questioned by the detectives.

According to the CBI officer, a second CBI team also searched an ashram in Nalhati that Adhikari is connected to.

The Calcutta High Court instructed the central probe agencies to look into the recruitment scandal in state-run and aided institutions.

Partha Chatterjee, a former minister for Bengal, and his associates are being are being investigated in the “jobs-for-bribes” scandal and are currently in custody. The state has been shaken by the scandal.
