New Delhi, April 18: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, stated today that no mafia or criminal can now pose a threat to industrialists in Uttar Pradesh. His statement comes days after the shocking deaths of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother sparked outrage over the state’s law and order situation.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the signing of an MoU for the construction of textile parks in the districts of Lucknow and Hardoi. The PM Mega Integrated Textiles and Apparel (PM Mitra) initiative is credited with creating textile parks.

“Now, a professional criminal or a mafia cannot threaten an industrialist over the phone,” he said as the audience applauded.

“Uttar Pradesh was notorious for riots. Just the names of many districts scared people. Now there is no need to be scared,” he said.

Mr Adityanath, criticising the former Akhilesh Yadav administration, claimed that between 2012 and 2017, the state experienced more than 700 riots.  “But not a single riot broke out in UP between 2017 and 2023, no curfew was imposed. That situation did not arise. And this is the most conducive opportunity to invest and set up industries,” he said.

He said Uttar Pradesh now “guarantees effective law and order arrangements”.
