New Delhi, April 25: Anand Mohan, a gangster who became a politician, has been freed from custody in Bihar. On Monday, he learned of the news while in Patna, for his son’s engagement ceremony. On April 10, the Nitish Kumar administration changed the prison regulations to allow his release.

For his son’s engagement, Anand Mohan was released from prison on parole for the third time.

During the event, Anand Mohan was informed that he had been released from prison in a nearly 30-year-old murder case.

Anand Mohan led a mob that killed Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994.

Meanwhile, Anand Mohan Singh who is out on 15-day parole for his son’s wedding took a dig at BJP and said, “In Gujarat, some convicts of Bilkis Bano case have been released. That too happened due to the pressure of Nitish-RJD?”

“I will return to jail after the ceremonies here and when release orders come, then I will call you all,” he said.

At the engagement ceremony of Anand Mohan’s son, prominent politicians and ministers including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Tejashwi Yadav, and JDU leader Lalan Singh were present.

Chetan Anand, his eldest son, and his fiancée Ayushi exchanged engagement rings. At a Patna farmhouse, the couple got engaged.

Anand Mohan was released after the Nitish Kumar administration amended Rule 481 of the Prison Manual, 2012 on April 10 to allow Mohan’s release. In the murder case, he received the death penalty in 2007, but the Patna High Court mitigated it in 2008.

26 additional prisoners who had served between 14 and 20 years in prison will be released, according to the official notification from the Bihar government.
