IIT ISM Dhanbad: Science & Technology secretary calls upon experts for advanced research

Dhanbad, April 28: The Science and Technology department secretary, Government of India, Dr S Chandrashekhar, today called upon experts to carry out advanced research in the technology for start-ups.

Dr Chandrashekhar, who was inaugurating technology innovation hub  TEXMIN of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on Friday lauded the technology developed by TEXMIN that enables real-time monitoring and optimization of vehicles and asset movements in mines.

He also appreciated the web-enabled illumination surveying equipment IA-powered E surveillance system developed by TEXMIN as major technology which ensures greater safety and efficiency of workers.

“ I am glad that TEXMIN established at IIT ISM, which has 97 years experience in mining and other earth science study, is carrying forward the nation’s mission for an interdisciplinary cyber-physical system of DST,” said Dr Chandrashekhar while inaugurating through online mode from New Delhi.

However, he advised the experts that the technologies developed at  TEXMIN do not remain confined to the usage of strat-ups as first-phase activities. “ Ensure the further development of the technologies at an advance level to ensure its usage at large scale by garnering more funds,” he said to experts.

IIT ISM Dhanbad director Prof Rajiv Shekhar while addressing the inaugural function shed light on two years journey of TEXMIN and said that the proposal of DST for establishing the centre under a national mission for the interdisciplinary cyber-physical system came before the Covid and institution decided to go for carrying out transnational research and promote innovation in the field of mining and exploration.

“ Though, initially we were not very much aware of its potential but picture start is making clear gradually with big mining players like Dassault, Sandvik and Adani have joined hands with us,” said director Shekhar.

Jeremy Kilburn, Provost, Curtin University Australia was present as guest of honour on the occasion and he gave details about academic and research collaboration between IIT ISM and  Curtin University Australia. Saifullah Ansari, director of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) also addressed and shed light on the significance of innovative technologies for mining operations
