Ranchi, May 18: Hearing on the allotment of a room for offering Namaz in the Jharkhand assembly premises remained inconclusive today as the affidavit filed by the assembly secretariat in the matter could not come on the record.
The affidavit mentions that a committee of seven MLAs has been constituted to look into the matter and the committee is collecting information related to such arrangements in other states. The committee is expected to submit its report by July 31.
A hearing in the matter will take place on June 22.
The matter reached before the high court after Ajay Kumar Modi had filed the petition and advocate Naveen Kumar argued on his behalf.
The matter arose after in the year 2021, a room was allotted for the minorities in the Jharkhand Assembly building to offer Namaz and BJP, which is the main opposition party of the state, took strong exception to this. This struck a controversy between the ruling party and the opposition.
On May 2, the high court had given the assembly secretariat its last opportunity to submit its affidavit in the matter.
