Ranchi, June 20: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today issued summons to Birsa Munda Jail superintendent Hamid Akhtar and advocate Himanshu Mehta. Akhtar has been called on June 26 while Mehta on June 28 at the probe agency’s regional office in Doranda in the state capital.
The ED is expected to question Akhtar for his decision of giving undue favour to jailed ED accused including IAS officers Pooja Singhal and Chhavi Ranjan besides power broker Prem Prakash, Kolkata businessman Amit Agarwal, MLA representative to CM Hemant Soren, Pankaj Mishra and others.
After the latest revelations of Chhavi Ranjan and Prem Prakash meeting in jail, the ED has decided to summon Akhtar. Prem Prakash had met Chhavi Ranjan in the evening in the jail. The ED has mentioned the jail meeting of Chhavi Ranjan and Prem Prakash in the charge sheet against Chhavi Ranjan, Amit Agarwal and others. That the two accused are illegally meeting inside a high-security prison clearly shows that the conspiracy is still going on.
Akhtar has been in controversy for a long time. Even before this, on several occasions, he had refused to appear before the ED when summoned. He refused to hand over the CCTV footage of the prison to the ED. The CCTV footage was also destroyed by him.
The ED’s investigation revealed that the documents and claims of Jayant Karnad submitted to the Jharkhand High Court by advocate Himanshu Kumar Mehta were false. Mehta deliberately withheld specific facts before the High Court, as the army itself was looking for the rightful claimant to pay the rent. He concealed the fact before the High Court that the petitioner i.e. Jayant Karnad did not have the succession certificate, which was required by the defence.
Jayant Karnad and Himanshu Kumar Mehta colluded with each other to obtain favourable orders from the Jharkhand High Court by producing papers or evidence that could prove Jayant Karnad’s succession to the property.
