Jharia Division of Tata Steel bags Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation award

Dhanbad, June 24: The Jharia Division of Tata Steel has got the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation 2023’ award for sustainable mining practice, specifically for its innovative use of industrial rejects for stowing in underground coal mines.

The award was given during the 24th International Conference on Environment Management and Climate Change hosted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), under the chairmanship of  M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.

Narendra Kumar Gupta, chief of Jamadoba group, Tata Steel and Raj Ankur, head of planning, Jharia, received the award on behalf of the company.

Commenting on the achievement, D. B. Sundara Ramam, vice president, raw materials, Tata Steel, said Tata Steel has been continuously striving for the cause of sustainability in all its processes including mining.

“The award bestowed to Tata Steel has once again demonstrated our unwavering commitment to sustainable mining and a greener tomorrow”, he said.

The Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award evaluates entries based on various project parameters, including material efficiency, environmental impact, benefits of new processes and products and economic value distribution.
