MANOJ SINHA

Ramgarh, June 28: On the basis of the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr Dushyant Kumar Raghav, nodal officer of the Rural Agricultural Meteorological Service operated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mandu on Wednesday said that the monsoon has expanded in the district.  There is a gradual decline in the maximum and minimum temperature in the district and people have got relief from the heat.  He said that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning in the district in the coming days as well.

Varieties of paddy are ready for direct sowing in less time like Sahibgi, IR-64 DRT-1, Swarna Shreya, Swarna Shakti Dhan, Birsa Vikas Dhan-110 or 111, Frontal etc. He advised to sow by choosing any one variety from the list.  The farmers whose paddy seed is ready should sow it.  The farmers who want to prepare paddy seeds should prepare the seedbed (nursery) and sow the seeds. The seedbed should be kept a little above the ground surface so that even in the event of heavy rains, the seedbed is protected from waterlogging. For planting 1 acre of seedlings, 16-18 kg of seeds and 10 decimils of soil (seedbed) are required.  In the seedbed, mix 100 kg compost, 2.5 kg urea, 6 kg single super phosphate and 1.5 kg muriate of potash per square meter in the soil.

For green manure in the paddy field,  he advised sowing dhaicha.  For this, the seed rate of 10-15 kg per acre is sufficient.  It can be sown by zero tillage or sprinkling method and the field should be prepared for the sowing of pigeon peas. The seeds should be brought from a certified source only.  Before sowing the seeds they must be treated with Rhizobium and phosphorus-soluble bacteria suitable for pigeon peas.  This treatment increases seed germination and production.  For the cultivation of Madua, the farmer has improved the variety of Madua in A.-404, Birsa Madua-2, Birsa Madua-3, GPU-28, GPU-67, BHL-149 etc. Farmers should sow by choosing any one variety from the list.  3.5 – 4 kg of seed is required for cultivation in one acre.  Farmers should choose one of the improved varieties of jowar, CSV-1616, CSV-17, CSH-16 etc.  To cultivate one acre, 5 kg of seed is required.  Those who have made a pit for planting fruit trees should fill the pit by adding 8-10 kg cow dung manure, 2 kg karanji cake, 1 kg DAP, 500 gm Muriate of Potash in each pit and bring the plant from a reliable nursery.  For animal feed, farmers can sow fodder crops like Napier Berseem Cowpea etc.
