Jamshedpur, July 18:  On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day which was observed on July 15, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) achieved a significant milestone of having successfully trained 2 lakh students in essential and green job skills for the power sector.

TPSDI, a state-of-the-art skill enhancement institute, has been a driving force in empowering youth and individuals with employable skills, with a specific focus on jobs pertaining to the renewable energy sector, in alignment with the company’s ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ mission.

World Youth Skills Day is observed annually on July 15 and is led by the United Nations to recognize the strategic significance of providing young individuals with the skills necessary for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. With its six training centres across India, TPSDI has made remarkable progress in addressing the significant challenge of skill gaps prevalent in the Indian power sector.

Green jobs are experiencing a notable upward trajectory as the demand for sustainable solutions and environmental conservation continues to grow.

TPSDI recognizes this increasing demand for green jobs as India aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2070 and to drive the clean energy transition with an aim to fulfil India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity.

TPSDI is committed to offering specialized training and certification programs while aligning itself with the country’s sustainable development goals and preparing individuals for rewarding careers in the growing field of green jobs.

“At Tata Power, we believe in empowering youth through skilling and progressive capacity-building for a transformative future. Our efforts are centred around making the youth from our communities future-ready. Through TPSDI, we are creating an ecosystem that fosters focused training for the youth in cutting-edge green and smart energy technologies, opening them to opportunities for gainful employment and entrepreneurship.” stated Himal Tewari, Chief – HR, CSR & Sustainability at Tata Power.

At TPSDI, the training experience is meticulously designed to ensure the holistic development of trainees. Beyond imparting technical skills, the institute also emphasizes enhancing numerical proficiency, scientific acumen, fundamental IT knowledge, industry orientation, effective communication, soft skills, personality development, work ethics and sector-specific safety, health, and environment (SHE) practices.

The training program combines theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on skills, nurturing well-rounded professionals prepared to tackle the industry’s challenges with excellence.
