Ranchi, July 18: Khudi Munda, a Maoist involved in killing four policemen,  surrendered before Ranchi range DIG Anoop Birtharay in a programme organised in Gumla, about 100km from here.

Munda, a resident of Batkuri village in Bharno block of Gumla district, was carrying a bounty of Rs 6 lakh. The Jharkhand police had declared Rs 5 lakh on his head while the NIA had declared Rs one lakh on his head. He held the position of sub-zonal commander in the Maoist organization.

Munda is named in as many as 50 cases of naxal violence registered in Gumla, Simdega and Latehar. He had been involved in the attack on Chainpur police station and the bombing of Chainpur block building. He had killed four policemen in Chainpur.

His area of influence was the frontiers of Palkot and Simdega for the last two years. He planned surrender only after two commanders, Rajesh Oraon and Lazim, were killed in an encounter last month.

Munda said that in 1996 his cousin Bobby, formerly an active member of the Maoists, used to deliver goods to Munda and inform about police movements. In 1999, along with his cousin, he was involved in arms robbery and many Naxalite incidents in Lapung police station area.

Munda said that he was arrested in the year 2001 and went to jail. During his stay in jail, he came in contact with many extremists. After coming out of jail in 2005, due to a family dispute, he came in contact with Maoist commanders Manoj Nagesia and Silbestar Lakda and started living with the squad.
