Jamshedpur, July 18: Railway police on Tuesday arrested three persons including a notorious thief by carrying out raids at different places in Jharkhand and Bengal.
Those arrested were identified as Noor Mohammed, his nephew Irfan Ansari and Aswin Kumar Das, all residents of Bokaro.
While making the arrest, the railway police have recovered stolen laptops, mobile phones and other valuables worth about Rs 4 lakhs.
Significantly, one of the accused Noor Mohammed who is a resident of Pindrajora locality in Bokaro is a notorious thief and used to commit thefts having booked tickets in the AC coaches in the trains.
Revealing about the breakthrough, Inspector, Railway Protection Force, Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari said recently a resident of Namkum in Ranchi, Deepak Kumar lost his bag while travelling in Howrah-Hatia Express. Kumar had lodged an FIR with the GRP Thana, Ranchi leading the railway police to register a case in Ranchi. The case had been transferred to GRP, Tatanagar for investigation.
In another case, a cellphone of a passenger was stolen from the second-class waiting room at Tatanagar station on July 16.
“When the investigating railway police took out the CCTV footage of both the cases of thefts, they found a common face behind both the incidents and it was that off Noor Mohammed, ” said Tiwari while talking to newsmen.
The RPF inspector said the probing railway police subsequently put the number of the stolen mobile phone on surveillance and finally arrested the thief at a place in Bankuda in West Bengal.
Later on being interrogated, the arrested thief Noor Mohammed divulged that he would commit thefts by travelling in AC coaches and would sell the stolen goods to Ashwini Das in Bokaro.
He also confessed that he presented stolen a laptop made by Apple company to his nephew Irfan Ansari. On the basis of the confessions, the railway police raided the house of Ashwini and Irfan in Bokaro and arrested them also after recovering the stolen laptops and mobile phones from their houses.
