New Delhi, August 1: The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was presented in Parliament on Tuesday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The controversial Ordinance on the control of services in the national capital is to be replaced by this measure.

Introducing the bill in Parliament, Amit Shah said “the Constitution gives Parliament all right to bring any law with respect to Delhi”.

On the Delhi Ordinance Bill, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supported the Centre. BJD MP Pinaki Mishra said, “The Supreme Court judgment says that Parliament can enact any law in the case of Delhi. All objections are political. They have a constitutional foundation of Parliamentary foundation. Hence, give us the right to introduce the bill.”

In accordance with the proposed legislation, the centre would have authority to suspend or investigate officials in the national capital. This afternoon, it was brought up amid a commotion about the Manipur issue in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The Manipur issue caused a snag in today’s Parliament session as the opposition parties requested a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the violent state.

The opposition MPs started shouting about the Manipur issue when Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attempted to start Question Hour at 11:00 a.m.

Following their brief session, which lasted only 15 minutes, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 3 o’clock.
