Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal has triggered controversy after stating at an RSS youth conference, “Sankalp 2026 Yuva Sangamam,” held in Manivila on Saturday, that those who do not say “Vande Mataram” do not know their own mother.
Student Organisations Accuse VC of Pushing RSS Agenda
Student organisations SFI and KSU have levelled serious allegations against Kunnummal, accusing him of implementing the RSS agenda within the university. They said his remarks, along with his repeated presence at RSS platforms, prove that he is engaged in saffronising the higher education system.
LDF, UDF Question VC’s Appointment by Governor
Both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have raised questions over Kunnummal’s appointment by the Governor. The controversy has emerged at a time when Kerala is already witnessing political friction between the state and central governments over guidelines concerning the singing of the full version of the national song during official Independence Day celebrations.
