Daltonganj, Aug 3: Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar has appealed to people not to panic at the raging conjunctivitis or eye flu. He said eye flu cases are coming in but there is no reason to get scared.

He said we are very soon going to issue an advisory on it wherein common people will find it easier to tackle conjunctivitis.

“A large number of people know what to do but our advisory will be more focused on what not to do in the event of conjunctivitis like no hot fomenting or ice cooling of the eyes but a plain simple water wash of the eyes,”  he said.

The Civil Surgeon said there are medications for it at our health centres and there is no worry about it.

“Besides the growing number of cases of conjunctivitis, there are cases of scorpion bite and snake bite too,” he pointed out. “I ask common people not to go to any Jhar Phoonk wala but straight to a government hospital in the event of the scorpion bite and snake bite,” he added.

Dr Anil Kumar further said, “I would be asking my medical officers in-charge of the community health centres to create more and more awareness about conjunctivitis, scorpion bite and snake bite.”

A sensitization programme on prevention and treatment of eye flu, post-bite treatment in cases of snake and scorpion bites is also on the anvil.

The Civil Surgeon said we have been consistently and persistently asking families not to bring with them dead or live snakes to the hospital just to convince the doctor that the bite is of the snake and also to help the doctor to identify the species of the snake as well.

The Civil surgeon said: “I am taking stock position of the medicines available at the community health centres. All medical officers in-charge of the community health centres have been directed to give an update on the availability of the medicines.”

It was the second day in the office of the Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar who took over charge from the outgoing Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar who has been transferred to the district of Latehar in the same capacity.

This is the second term of Dr Anil Kumar as Civil Surgeon of Palamu and he knows which sector of health here needs to be strengthened.

He said, “I have got a request from the building division to take over the newly readied 100-bed building in the premise of the Medinirai Medical College Hospital in Daltonganj. I want that a team of five officials drawn from electricity as well as drinking water departments be also there on this panel of five to see if this so claimed to be readied 100 -bed hospital is worth taking over now.”

Dr Anil Kumar said: “if all is found fit and fine with this 100-bed building then the mother and newly born child unit will be relocated here.”

He said the DC has assured to have a state-of-the-art mother and child unit in this 100-bed building.
