New Delhi, Aug 21: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was one of nine Members of Parliament (MPs) who swore in as Rajya Sabha members on Monday.
In the Rajya Sabha chamber of Parliament House, the oath was administered by Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The oath was taken in English by Jaishankar. This marks his second tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP, following his initial election in 2019.
Along with Jaishankar, other BJP members who took the oath include Nagendra Ray (West Bengal), Kesridevsinh Digvijaysinh Jhala (Gujarat), and Babubhai Jesangbhai Desai (Gujarat).
Additionally, the oath was taken by five members of the Trinamool Congress: Samirul Islam, Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, and Prakash Chik Baraik. The oath was taken in Bengali by O’Brien, Sen, Islam, and Ray.
Five newly elected members—Nagendra Ray, Prakash Chik Baraik, Samirul Islam, Kesridevsinh Digvijaysinh Jhala, and Babubhai Jesangbhai Desai are among the nine who took the oath of office on Monday.
According to a statement from the Rajya Sabha secretariat, four members took the oath in Bengali, three in Hindi and two in English.
Piyush Goyal, the leader of the House and Minister of Commerce and Industry, P C Mody, the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha, and other senior secretariat officials were also present.
