Chatra, Aug 29: On a tip-off, a raid was carried out in a village with the police team arresting a couple with 60 grams of brown sugar on Tuesday. The arrest and recovery were made in the Moktama village under the Sadar police station area of the district. Subdivisional police officer Avinash Kumar confirmed the arrest of the couple and the recovery of brown sugar.
Kumar said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan had received an information in this regard. The information came that one Birju Bhuiyan was involved in the purchase and sale of brown sugar keeping the drugs in his house.
Ranjan immediately formed a team led by Kumar and comprising Sadar police station officer-in-charge Manohar Karmali. Police sub-inspectors Manoj Pal, Sriram Kumar Pandit and Beena Kumari were also included besides the armed team.
The team raided the house of Birju Bhuiyan recovering 60 grams of brown sugar. Birju (32) was arrested with his wife Sunita Devi (27). Sunita named one Naushad from her village who was involved in selling drugs to smugglers from other states. She said Naushad gave them the brown sugar to keep at home. Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against the trio under the NDPS Act and the couple has been sent to jail whereas the hunt is on for Naushad.
