New Delhi, Sept 11: The University Grants Commission has started a capacity-building initiative to foster the overall development of 15 lakh higher education teachers and to instil ethics and human values in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, an official said.
Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centers (MMTTC) are 111 institutions that have been identified across India as part of the UGC’s Malaviya Mission-Teacher Training programme.
“The teachers will be trained in these institutions. Some of the programs are offline while others are online. We aim to complete the training of all 15 lakh teachers in higher education in next two to three years,” said a UGC official
According to the official, the goal is to raise the standard of education at all levels by fostering excellence in both teachers and teaching.
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day last week, the mission was announced.
“It will also ensure holistic development of the teachers and learners with the inculcation of ethics and human values as enshrined in Indian culture and develop multidisciplinary and critical thinking ability in them,” the UGC official said.
The official stated that a two-week online faculty capacity-building program has been carefully created to correspond with the core components of NEP 2020.
Holistic education, Indian knowledge systems, academic leadership, governance, research, skill development, inclusivity, technology integration, learning outcomes identification, and assessment are the themes of the Malaviya Mission-Teacher Training program.
“It prioritizes the continuous professional development of faculty, offering a forward-looking orientation across various themes.,” UGC Chief M Jagadesh said.
The curriculum emphasizes faculty involvement in institutional development, another important factor in raising the standard of higher education, in addition to faculty development.
According to officials, the training material strikes a mix between an India-centric ethos and a global viewpoint, providing teachers with Indian values and cutting-edge technologies to handle the changing higher education scenario.
A specialized website has been established for faculty members to access capacity-building programs.
