Jamshedpur, Sept 23: Police on Saturday recovered skeleton of a 28-year-old woman who had left her house along with her paramour in suburban Govindpur thana area a month ago.
The recovery of the skeleton followed arrest of the murder victim’s paramour Mukesh Bhatt who was suspect behind the disappearance of the victim since August 22.
Mother of two children, the murder victim Reena Devi, would stay at her parents’ house in Govindpur for the past two years as her husband Akshay Lal Shah works in a jute mill in Calcutta.
During her stay at the parents’ house, Reena had come in contact with Mukesh — a casual worker — just three months ago.
Having come to know about Reena’s disappearance on August 22, Akshay Lal had returned to the steel city and had lodged a missing report with the Govindpur thana on August 23, mentioning Mukesh Bhatt as a suspect. But despite a month had elapsed, the police did not do anything to search the victim.
Significantly, the police came into action after Akshay Lal met the senior superintendent of police, Kaushal Kishore on Friday, leading the latter to instruct the Govindpur thana OC to detect Reena Devi as soon as possible.
Govindpur thana OC, Amit Kumar said the skeleton of Reena Devi was recovered at the instance of Mukesh Bhatt.
“As Mukesh was the suspect, we picked up him from his house and took him to the police station. On being interrogated, he gave in and divulged everything. He confessed to have strangulated the woman after taking her from her house in the night of August 22. He later showed the place along the Govindpur-Hurlung road where he had dumped the body a month ago, ” said the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.
Speaking about the reason behind killing Reena Devi, Amit Kumar said Reena was pressuring Mukesh to marry her which he was not ready to do. This was the reason that Mukesh had taken the woman out of her house on some plea and murdered her to get rid of her.
The OC Amit Kumar said that they have already arrested Mukesh Bhatt, adding that they would get a DNA of the skeleton soon.
