Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign: Shramdaan at over 9.20 lakh locations on PM’s Appeal

New Delhi, Oct 1: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide cleanliness campaign appeal, people from all sectors, from leaders to students, participated in a one-hour Shramdaan on Sunday. According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the campaign, cleanliness programs were organized at more than 9.20 lakh locations across the country.

Learn that in the previous episode of the monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on All India Radio, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to all citizens to dedicate one hour of voluntary work for cleanliness on October 2nd. He mentioned that it would be a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the previous evening of his birth anniversary.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the cleanliness campaign organized in Ahmedabad. In this sequence, BJP National President JP Nadda participated in this campaign in the Jhandewalan area of Delhi. Taking part in Shramdaan, Union Energy Minister RK Singh told reporters, “We (central government) have pledged to make the country clean. It’s a big challenge, but we will do it”.

It is reported that across the country, Union Ministers and BJP leaders took part in the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign by picking up brooms. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the cleanliness campaign in Ahmedabad. BJP MP Dinesh Sharma participated in the cleanliness campaign and said that cleanliness has become the face of the country. Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary participated in the cleanliness campaign in Delhi.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign’s cleanliness effort in Patna. “It is a national program. Advocates also took part in the drive. I am going to Kalighat Patna and will participate in the cleanliness campaign. Swachh Bharat is important for the country,” he said.

As part of the current “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat oversaw the cleanup effort at Chhath Ghat, ITO in Delhi, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

“The Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat along with Senior officials of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation to participate in ‘Shramdaan for Swachhata’ under the ‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ initiative of the Prime Minister, and as part of ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign,” said the statement.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who participated in ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ in Lucknow, said that on the appeal of the Prime Minister, such programs are being organized across the country. He appealed to everyone to participate in this campaign.

Delhi Municipal Corporation said that it conducted a cleanliness drive at 500 places in the national capital.

Cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also appealed to people to come together and strengthen their commitment to cleanliness and join the biggest citizen-led movement to strengthen the resolve towards cleanliness. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs stated that various non-governmental organizations, market associations, self-help groups, religious groups, trade bodies, and private sector companies voluntarily contributed to cleanliness at more than 22,000 market areas, 10,000 water bodies, 7,000 bus stands/toll plazas, 1,000 cowsheds, 300 zoos and wildlife areas, as well as in rural and urban areas.

Among the states, Uttar Pradesh chose more than one lakh sites for the cleanliness drive, while Maharashtra organized the program at more than 62,000 places, including beaches, religious places, schools, colleges and water bodies. During this campaign in Telangana, temples of historical importance were cleaned.
