New Delhi, Oct 5: The Norwegian author Jon Fosse was awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature by the Swedish Academy on Thursday.
He was honoured with the award “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable.”
“His immense oeuvre written in Norwegian Nynorsk and spanning a variety of genres consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books and translations. While he is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world, he has also become increasingly recognised for his prose,” the academy said in a statement.
Earlier on Wednesday, Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus, and Alexei I. Ekimov received the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for their work on the synthesis and discovery of quantum dots.
The Nobel Prize carries a cash reward of 11 million Swedish Kronor (1 million US dollars). This prize money is given from the estate of Swedish citizen Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prize, who passed away in 1896.
