Dhanbad, Oct 14: Electronic equipment and important papers were gutted in a fire that broke out in the account section of the administrative building of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) in the wee hour of Saturday.
Prof JK Patnayak, director of IIT ISM, told media persons that a security guard spotted the fire at around 5:30 a.m. and after one hour of fighting fire tender team controlled it completely.
In the fire computers CPU, and UPS of worth rupees several lakhs are estimated to be damaged in the fire. “The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. The damage in the fire could be calculated only after proper assessment,” the director informed the media persons.
The official said the security guard first spotted the smoke billowing out from the account section of the office. He duly informed the chief security officer of the institution. The fire brigade team reached the spot in no time and after breaking the windows and locks of the office extinguished the fire.
Timely action of the fire brigade team prevented the fire from spreading further nearby the administrative building.
