Dhanbad, Oct 26: A caesarean delivery charge from a poor patient by staff at Pakur Sadar Hospital has rocked the district health department.

A patient’s husband Md Mannwar Alam has lodged a complaint to Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Mantu Tekriwal and Pakur local MLA  Alamgir Alam’s representative Mukhtar Hussain alleging that a staff of  Sadar Hospital realized Rs 1500 from him in the name of conducting caesarean delivery.

As per government directives, institutional delivery is free in Sadar Hospital.

In his written complaint, Md Mannwar Alam said that on October 20 (Friday) he got his wife admitted to Sadar Hospital at around 6.48 pm where she delivered a son. Just thereafter an  OT staff of Sadar Hospital whose name he did not know came and demanded Rs 1500 for the caesarean delivery from him.

Since his wife was admitted to the hospital, under pressure from the staff he had to pay the amount (Rs 1500). Other patients in the ward also informed him that they too had to pay the hospital staff caesarean charge.

The victim, Md Mannwar Alam, in his complaint to the Civil Surgeon (a copy of the complaint is in possession of Lagatar24.com) and Pakur  MLA representative, has urged to conduct a probe of the allegation against the OT staff of Sadar Hospital and take proper action so that poor patients at the Sadar Hospital do not suffer from corruption.

Alam said that if the Civil Surgeon fails to take action against the OT staff, he would directly approach the Rural Development Minister (Pakur MLA) Alamgir Alam for justice.

Pakur Civil Surgeon Dr Mantu Tekriwal did not receive the call when contacted.

In one month, this is the second time the Pakur district health department has hogged the limelight for the wrong reason. In August, the Civil Surgeon deployed a transferred doctor at Sadar Hospital after relieving him for another district.
