New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money-laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to the Delhi liquor policy. However, Mr. Kejriwal will remain in jail due to his ongoing questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a separate case.

The judgment was delivered by a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta. The court noted that Mr. Kejriwal had been incarcerated for over 90 days while granting him interim bail in the excise policy case filed by the ED.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested on March 21 by the ED in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. Despite the relief granted by the Supreme Court in this case, his release is hindered by the ongoing CBI investigation, which involves separate allegations.

The Supreme Court’s decision brings a significant development in the ongoing legal battles faced by the Delhi Chief Minister. While the bail in the ED case provides some relief, the separate investigation by the CBI ensures that Mr. Kejriwal will continue to remain in custody for the time being.

The allegations and subsequent arrests stem from the Delhi liquor policy, which has been under scrutiny for alleged irregularities and corruption. The case has had significant political implications, with the Aam Aadmi Party defending its leader against what it calls politically motivated charges.

As the legal proceedings continue, the political landscape in Delhi remains tense, with supporters and critics closely watching the developments in both the ED and CBI cases involving Arvind Kejriwal.
