Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. The alert coincides with the high-profile wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, set to take place at the Jio World Convention Center in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Friday evening.
An orange alert indicates severe weather conditions that can significantly impact transportation, including rail, road, and air travel. As a result, several companies operating in BKC have advised their employees to work remotely until July 15 to avoid heavy traffic and ensure safety.
Anant Ambani, the younger son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of businessman Viren Merchant and Shaila Merchant, will celebrate their wedding over three days, following four months of star-studded pre-wedding festivities.
The extravagant wedding is expected to draw VIPs and global celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloe Kardashian, former UK prime ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair, futurist Peter Diamandis, artist Jeff Koons, self-help coach Jay Shetty, former US Secretary of State John Kerry, and former Canadian PM Stephen Harper. Prominent Bollywood stars will also be in attendance.
Guests from the corporate world include HSBC Holdings plc Chairman Mark Tucker, Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Lee, Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser, BP Chief Executive Murray Auchincloss, Emma Walmsley of GSK Plc, Jim Taiclet of Lockheed Martin, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Mukesh and Nita Ambani have hosted a series of events in Mumbai. Last week, pop icon Justin Bieber performed at the sangeet, while traditional ceremonies such as haldi, mehendi, Mosalu, and Mameru were held over the past week.
As the wedding festivities coincide with the predicted heavy rainfall, the city’s infrastructure and transportation services are expected to be under significant pressure. Residents and guests are advised to plan accordingly and stay informed about weather updates.
