New Delhi: On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the chief ministers of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat to assess the flood and rain situations in their respective states. Shah assured the leaders of comprehensive support from the Central government, according to sources.
In a telephone conversation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shah inquired about the ongoing flood crisis. Sarma provided a detailed update on the current conditions and the measures being implemented to address the situation, sources reported.
Shah also reached out to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to understand the impact of the rising water levels in rivers due to heavy rainfall in their states. Both chief ministers briefed him on the challenges they are facing and the steps taken so far.
During these discussions, Shah assured all three chief ministers that the Central government would extend all possible assistance to help manage and mitigate the flood crisis, as per sources.
The flood situation in Assam is particularly severe, with 109 fatalities reported due to flood and rain-related incidents. Over 597,600 individuals have been affected across various districts including Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, and Sivasagar.
In Uttar Pradesh, nearly 1,500 villages across 22 districts have been impacted by floods, resulting in numerous casualties from rain-related incidents. Gujarat is also grappling with similar challenges due to heavy rains causing river levels to rise.
Shah’s engagement with the state leaders underscores the urgency and severity of the situation, as the Central government mobilizes support to aid the affected regions.
