Milwaukee: Donald Trump received an enthusiastic reception at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday, marking his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt. Sporting a white bandage on his ear, the former US president waved to a packed arena, earning a standing ovation from supporters just two days after the failed attack at a Pennsylvania rally.
The 78-year-old Trump made no formal remarks to the convention but was met with loud applause and chants of “USA! USA!” as he stood alongside his newly announced running mate, Senator J.D. Vance. Trump basked in the warm reception, surveying the convention floor filled with over 2,400 delegates before taking a seat next to Vance in a VIP box. The box also included House Republican Byron Donalds and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.
Dressed in a blue suit and his trademark red tie, Trump smiled and applauded as various officials, guests, and others addressed the convention, expressing gratitude to their party leader and praising his resilience after the assassination attempt.
“He has proven to be one tough S.O.B.,” said Sean O’Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union, drawing a massive cheer from the crowd.
Trump is set to formally accept the Republican Party’s nomination as their candidate for the upcoming November 5 election, where he will challenge President Joe Biden.
