Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Health Department suspended three staff members of Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital on Monday after a patient was trapped in a lift for over 1.5 days. The suspended employees include two lift operators and a duty sergeant.

The patient, identified as Raveendran Nair from Ullur, became stuck in the lift on Saturday and was not rescued until Monday morning at 6 am. The hospital staff were unaware that a patient was trapped in the lift located in the OP Block.

Raveendran Nair got stuck in the lift while leaving the hospital, and the lift reportedly stopped between two floors. When his phone became unreachable, his family filed a missing person report with the medical college police on Sunday night.

Family members expressed concern that there were no signboards indicating that the lift was out of service.

Health Minister Veena George ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. The suspension of the three staff members followed an investigation conducted by a team from the Department of Medical Education, including the joint director, principal, and superintendent.
