Chakradharpur: In a tragic incident early this morning, two people lost their lives and 20 others were injured after 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, about 80 km from Jamshedpur. The derailment occurred around 3:45 am, prompting immediate rescue and relief operations.
“Two people were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo. Rescue operations are ongoing, and an NDRF team is rushing to the spot,” West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is at the accident site, told PTI.
Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan mentioned that a nearby goods train also derailed, but it is unclear if the two incidents are connected. Among the derailed coaches were 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car.
Railways’ medical teams provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to Chakradharpur for further treatment. The exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
Several trains on the route have been cancelled or diverted due to the mishap. Buses have been arranged to transport the affected passengers, and the Indian Railways has issued helpline numbers for assistance:
