Ranchi: A significant proposal to transform the long-closed Welfare Cinema Hall, located in the Main Road Sainik Market complex, into a modern shopping mall was discussed during a key meeting of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare Management Committee. The meeting, held on Thursday at Raj Bhavan, was chaired by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

The proposal, if approved, would bring a new commercial development to the area, along with the beautification of the parking area within the Sainik Market complex. The meeting also covered various other topics, including the audit report of the board and the ongoing activities of the Sainik Welfare Board, which were presented to the Governor.

Governor Gangwar emphasized the need for the Sainik Welfare Board to accelerate its efforts and not remain confined to just proposals. He also addressed the issue of vacating shops that were allocated to ex-servicemen in the Sainik Market years ago, questioning the necessity of such actions when conditions are favorable and suggesting that unnecessary disputes should be avoided.

During the meeting, Governor Gangwar directed that ex-servicemen’s dependents who have represented the state or country at national and international levels should receive incentive awards. It was also agreed that children of ex-servicemen who have been selected as commissioned officers would be awarded an initial sum of ₹25,000 as a token of encouragement.

Governor Gangwar further instructed the board to actively seek employment opportunities for ex-servicemen within companies operating in the state. He suggested leveraging services from security agencies under the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) to facilitate this employment. The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Chief Secretary L. Khiyangate, Principal Secretary to the Governor Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Principal Secretary of Home, Prisons, and Disaster Management Department Vandana Dadel, and Principal Secretary of Finance Department Mastram Meena.
