Ranchi: The special PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court in Ranchi has rejected the bail plea of Pankaj Mishra, who is accused of amassing a vast fortune through illegal mining activities in Sahibganj district. On Thursday, the court dismissed his bail application. This isn’t the first time Pankaj Mishra has sought bail in this case; his previous plea was also rejected by the Ranchi ED court. Following that, he approached both the High Court and the Supreme Court, but he was denied relief there as well.
It is noteworthy that Pankaj Mishra, who was then a representative of the Chief Minister, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in July 2022. During the investigation, the ED seized ₹11.88 crore from 37 bank accounts belonging to Pankaj Mishra, Dahu Yadav, and their associates. The ED also conducted raids at 19 locations in Sahibganj, Barharwa, Rajmahal, Mirza Chauki, and Barharwa, during which several documents and ₹5.34 crore in cash were confiscated.
