New Delhi: Nayab Singh Saini will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana on October 17, at 10 am, in a ceremony graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. This marks Saini’s second term as Chief Minister, following his earlier appointment in March after Manohar Lal Khattar stepped down.

The ceremony, set to take place in the presence of other BJP-ruled state leaders, comes on the heels of BJP’s third consecutive Assembly election victory in Haryana. Saini, a key figure in the party’s victory, was speculated to be replaced post-election, but sources confirm that his pivotal role in the triumph secured him a second term.

The BJP is now tasked with forming the new Haryana Cabinet, with 14 ministerial positions available, including Saini’s. Out of the remaining positions, the party needs 11 new faces, as only Mahipal Dhanda and Mool Chand Sharma from the previous government retained their seats. Balancing caste equations and satisfying community demands will be critical in forming the new government.

The BJP defied exit poll predictions, securing 48 out of 90 seats and achieving a historic third straight victory, while Congress, despite early leads, ended with 37 seats.

Prime Minister Modi, speaking after the win, commended the party’s efforts and criticized the Congress for relying heavily on alliances to gain electoral success.
