Ranchi: BJP’s state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo, during a press briefing at the party headquarters, condemned the heinous rape and murder of a young woman in Namkum, Ranchi, calling it a glaring example of the increasing insecurity faced by women under the Hemant Soren government. Shahdeo alleged that in broad daylight, a young woman was kidnapped and brutally murdered, reflecting the lawlessness prevailing in the state.

Shahdeo highlighted the alarming crime statistics during the current government’s five-year tenure, stating that 7,200 rape incidents, over 7,000 murders, and more than 2.5 lakh cognizable crimes have been recorded. “There is complete lawlessness, and it is evident from the fact that rape cases have increased by 29% when comparing data from 2017 to 2022 under the BJP’s rule and the current Hemant government,” Shahdeo said.

He also expressed concern over the dismal conviction rate in cases of sexual assault and under POCSO, with less than 25% of culprits facing justice. Shahdeo criticized the government’s failure to effectively use fast-track courts to ensure timely punishment for criminals, further labeling the record as “poor.”

Turning to the upcoming elections, Shahdeo declared that with a large number of NDA candidates filing their nominations, “the countdown for the end of this government has begun.” The BJP will contest the elections with promises such as providing gas cylinders for ₹500, 2,70,000 government jobs, ₹2,000 monthly unemployment allowance, 5 lakh self-employment opportunities, over 20 lakh housing units for the poor, and free sand distribution schemes.

He also pointed out the lack of clarity in the ruling alliance’s seat-sharing agreement, while the BJP and its allies have confidently entered the electoral fray with the aim to “uproot this corrupt government.”
