New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump during a telephonic conversation, reminiscing about key events that marked their collaboration, including the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston (September 2019) and ‘Namaste Trump’ in Ahmedabad (February 2020).

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement noting that PM Modi highlighted Trump’s re-election as a testament to the American people’s trust in his leadership. “Prime Minister Modi warmly congratulated President-elect Trump on his victory and the Republican Party’s success in the Congressional elections,” the statement read.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for mutual benefit and global stability. “They reiterated their shared goal to further bolster bilateral ties across sectors such as technology, defence, energy, and space,” the MEA added.

Expressing his enthusiasm for renewed collaboration, PM Modi shared on platform X, “Had a great conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to strengthening India-US relations across various sectors.”

According to ANI sources, President Trump praised India as a “magnificent country” and PM Modi as a “magnificent man.” He acknowledged that PM Modi was among the first world leaders he spoke to post-victory, highlighting their strong rapport and noting, “the whole world loves PM Modi.”

At 78, President Trump reclaimed the presidency by surpassing 270 Electoral College votes, acknowledging the honour in his Florida address. “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president, and your 45th president,” he said, with hopes for a period of national unity.
