Prayagraj: As the Maha Kumbh 2025 approaches, Indian Railways is ramping up efforts to facilitate the travel of millions of devotees to Prayagraj for the grand religious gathering. Western Railway has introduced 98 special trains to ensure safe and comfortable travel for pilgrims attending the event, one of the largest religious congregations in the world.
Enhanced Travel Experience for Devotees
Ajay Solanki, PRO of the Ahmedabad Division Railway, highlighted the meticulous preparations undertaken for passenger convenience. “Western Railway is running Kumbh special trains marked with flex painting. Hygiene and functionality of electric appliances are being ensured. RPF teams have been deployed to guide passengers and maintain security,” he said.
Indian Railways’ Comprehensive Plan
To manage the anticipated influx of devotees, Indian Railways has unveiled an extensive plan involving over 10,000 trains, including 3,300 special services. Key highlights include:
•Color-Coded Waiting Areas: Major stations will feature designated waiting zones to streamline the movement of unreserved passengers.
•Enhanced Security: Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officers will oversee crowd management and guide passengers.
•Smooth Operations: Special holding areas and orderly boarding processes will be implemented to handle high passenger volumes effectively.
Significance of Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh, held every 12 years, is expected to attract over 45 crore devotees from across the globe. Pilgrims gather at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—to perform the sacred dip, believed to absolve sins and grant spiritual liberation.
Key Bathing Dates
Key dates for the holy bathing include:
•January 14: Makar Sankranti
•January 29: Mauni Amavasya
•February 3: Basant Panchami
Millions of devotees are expected to participate on these auspicious dates.
