New Delhi: A dense fog covered Delhi on Tuesday morning, causing significant disruptions to travel and reducing visibility to zero in several areas. Over 35 trains faced delays due to the poor weather conditions, with some running up to four hours behind schedule.

Zero Visibility Hampers Movement

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility in Palam dropped to zero starting at 4:30 a.m., with southeasterly winds blowing at 6-8 kmph. Meanwhile, Safdarjung experienced minimum visibility of 50 metres since 5:30 a.m., as dense fog lingered across the region.

Officials confirmed that 39 trains were delayed as of 6 a.m. due to the weather conditions. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 8.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees above the seasonal average.

Air Quality Remains a Concern

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) noted that the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 256 at 9 a.m., categorizing it as “poor.” The IMD predicted dense fog throughout the day and a maximum temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius.
