Prayagraj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the Maha Kumbh, appreciating the efforts of the Central government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led state government, and the residents of Prayagraj for ensuring seamless arrangements for the 45-day religious gathering, which witnessed a record turnout of over 66 crore devotees at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
PM Modi remarked that the massive participation in the Maha Kumbh symbolized a nation breaking free from the colonial mindset.
PM Modi’s Apology For Any Shortcomings
In a blog post dedicated to the Maha Kumbh, PM Modi called the grand event a ‘mahayagna of unity’, held once every 12 years. While commending the seamless execution of the event, he also expressed regret for any shortcomings in arrangements.
“I know organizing such a massive event was not easy. I pray to Maa Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati that if there were any shortcomings in our service, may we be forgiven. If we fell short in serving the devotees, who are divine to me, I seek forgiveness from the people as well,” PM Modi wrote in Hindi.
Despite the smooth organization, the event witnessed a tragic stampede in which at least 30 devotees lost their lives.
Maha Kumbh’s Global Significance
Highlighting the unparalleled scale of the Maha Kumbh, PM Modi stated that the event had become a subject of study for modern management and policy experts.
“The whole world is astonished at how crores of people gathered at the Triveni Sangam without formal invitations or prior scheduling. People simply set out for Maha Kumbh with unwavering faith and devotion,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the spiritual fervor, he recalled seeing people of all ages—including women, the elderly, and the differently-abled—going to great lengths to take a holy dip in the sacred waters.
PM Modi also expressed joy over the significant participation of the youth in the religious gathering.
“It is heartening to see India’s younger generation actively engaging in Maha Kumbh. This signifies that they are deeply rooted in our cultural values and are committed to carrying them forward with dedication and pride,” he said.
Praise For Yogi Adityanath And Prayagraj Residents
PM Modi commended CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, stating that the state administration, local residents, and various personnel played a vital role in the event’s grand success.
“As a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh, I proudly say that under Yogi ji’s leadership, the government and the public together made this Maha Kumbh a remarkable success,” he said.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contributions of sanitation workers, police personnel, boatmen, drivers, and cooks, who worked relentlessly to serve the visiting devotees.
Record-Breaking Participation
Comparing the turnout to the population of the United States, PM Modi noted that the number of devotees at the Maha Kumbh nearly doubled the US population. He concluded by saying that this grand event has laid the foundation for spiritual and cultural prosperity for generations to come.
