New Delhi: Reacting to revelations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Congress has alleged that Modi’s “favourite” bureaucrat is running the Election Commission arbitrarily, pointing to the fact that two election commissioners themselves raised objections 14 times over 10 months.
Congress Says Commissioners Were Kept in the Dark
The party said it has become evident that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were not informed about key decisions, were not consulted, and that decisions were being taken without their knowledge or input.
Party Lists Issues Covered Under the 14 Objections
According to the Congress, the 14 objections relate to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), changes made to Form 6, new voter registrations, addition and deletion of names from the voter list, appeals against orders restoring names, the security of the voter list, and the overall functioning of the Election Commission. The party said these objections make it clear that within the three-member Commission, only Gyanesh Kumar’s word is running.
Congress Accuses Kumar of Acting Like a “Puppet” of Modi
The party further alleged that Gyanesh Kumar is behaving in an authoritarian manner similar to his “boss” Modi, and is carrying out “vote theft” to please him. It reiterated its long-standing claim that Modi has captured the Election Commission, describing Gyanesh Kumar as a puppet in Modi’s hands, and alleged that the two together have caused serious damage to India’s democracy. The party added that accountability would eventually be fixed and that those responsible would face consequences in due course.
