Ranchi: Apart from socially marginalized communities, several other groups in Jharkhand continue to face various challenges. Among them are women-led households, differently-abled individuals, and transgender persons. As per official records, Jharkhand has approximately 6.9 transgender persons per lakh population, bringing the total transgender population in the state to 2,270.
Women-Led Households
According to the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC, 2011), 10.45% of households in Jharkhand are led by women, which is lower than the national average of 12.88%. Women-headed households often face socio-economic difficulties, including limited access to financial resources and decision-making power.
Challenges Faced by Differently-Abled Individuals
In Jharkhand, 1.85% of the rural and 2.59% of the urban population suffers from some form of disability. Notably, 29% of India’s total differently-abled population resides in Jharkhand, which is higher than the national average.
Government Initiatives for Marginalized Communities
The Jharkhand government has launched several welfare schemes aimed at uplifting tribal and other disadvantaged communities. These initiatives focus on economic development, social inclusion, political representation, education, and healthcare. Given the diverse challenges faced by Scheduled Tribes (STs) and other marginalized groups, the state government has introduced targeted policies to improve their overall living conditions.
Jharkhand continues to work towards reducing inequality and promoting inclusive development for all marginalized and underprivileged groups in the state.
