New Delhi: India’s economic engine showed robust signs of acceleration as the gross GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection surged by 9.9% in March 2025, crossing ₹1.96 lakh crore, according to data released by the Finance Ministry on Tuesday.

The GST revenue from domestic transactions rose by 8.8% to ₹1.49 lakh crore, while revenue from imported goods jumped 13.56% to ₹46,919 crore, contributing significantly to the overall boost.

After adjusting for refunds amounting to ₹19,615 crore (a 41% increase from the previous year), the net GST revenue for March 2025 stood at over ₹1.76 lakh crore, marking a 7.3% year-on-year rise.

Upward Trend Continues

This steady growth aligns with the trend seen in the previous months:

• February 2025 GST collection: ₹1.83 lakh crore (9.1% year-on-year increase)

• January 2025 GST collection: ₹1.96 lakh crore

Officials attribute the continued rise to enhanced compliance, better tax administration, and increased consumption.

The Finance Ministry’s report reinforces India’s stable economic trajectory, as the country prepares for the new fiscal year with confidence.
