Kabul: Indian Special Envoy Anand Prakash met Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul on Monday to discuss strengthening political, economic, and transit cooperation. This meeting assumes significance as it comes amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.

High-Level Meeting Focused On Strategic Ties

During the discussions, FM Muttaqi highlighted the need to expand diplomatic and economic relations between Afghanistan and India. He stressed that Afghanistan provides a positive environment for investment and encouraged Indian investors to explore opportunities, especially in sectors where Afghanistan seeks international collaboration.

Push For Economic Collaboration And Investment

The Afghan foreign minister emphasized Afghanistan’s readiness for long-term partnerships with India, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors. He urged Indian businesses to capitalize on the available prospects and pledged full support to facilitate their operations.

Visa Process And People-To-People Connectivity

FM Muttaqi also called for the simplification of visa procedures for businessmen, patients, and students, pointing out that enhanced people-to-people connectivity would significantly boost trust and relations between the two nations.

India Reaffirms Commitment To Afghanistan’s Development

Indian envoy Anand Prakash reaffirmed India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s development and expressed New Delhi’s readiness to resume suspended infrastructure and development projects. He underlined India’s intent to remain a key partner in Afghanistan’s economic recovery and growth.

Joint Call For Stronger Bilateral Engagement

The meeting concluded with both sides emphasizing the importance of boosting bilateral ties through official exchanges, easing of visa norms, and greater collaboration in key sectors.

Earlier, Afghanistan had condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed solidarity with India, stating that acts of terrorism severely undermine peace and stability in the region.
