Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a development blitz in Andhra Pradesh, inaugurating and laying the foundation for projects worth ₹58,000 crore, including the relaunch of the greenfield capital city Amaravati—a vision long championed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Addressing a massive rally in Amaravati, the PM declared the city as a symbol of a developed Andhra and a key pillar of the national vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

PM Modi’s vision for Amaravati

Calling Amaravati “not just a city, but a dream being fulfilled”, Modi said the capital will empower the aspirations of youth and emerge as a hub for IT, AI, green energy, clean industry, healthcare, and education. “Swarna Andhra is the path to Viksit Bharat, and Amaravati will be its engine,” he said, assuring the Centre’s full support to the state’s infrastructure ambitions.

Capital city works and infrastructure push

Among the projects unveiled, the PM laid foundation stones for 74 works worth ₹49,000 crore under Amaravati’s development, including the new Assembly, High Court, Secretariat, residential quarters, and housing for 5,200 families. This includes a 320-km advanced transport network, flood management systems, and 1,281 km of roads with cycling tracks, medians, and utilities under the Land Pooling Scheme.

National and defence projects for Andhra

Modi also launched nine central projects worth ₹5,028 crore including a DRDO missile testing centre at Nagayalanka, the ₹100-crore PM Unity Mall in Vizag to boost indigenous crafts, and the Guntakal-Mallappa Gate rail overbridge. He laid the foundation for six national highway projects worth ₹3,176 crore and inaugurated eight others worth ₹3,860 crore to improve regional connectivity to places like Tirupati, Srikalahasti, and Malakonda.

Honouring the legacy of NTR Garu

Recalling the vision of legendary leader NTR, Modi urged the people to realise his dream of a prosperous Andhra. “In 10 years, India has transformed its physical, digital, and social infrastructure—Andhra Pradesh too will benefit from this development wave,” he said.
