New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation tonight at 8 pm, marking his first public statement since the launch of Operation Sindoor, officials confirmed on Monday. The high-stakes address comes two days after India and Pakistan reached a mutual understanding to immediately halt all military actions across land, air, and sea, following a sharp escalation in hostilities.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Coordinated Strike
India launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6–7 as a retaliatory measure to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians lost their lives. The operation targeted nine terror camps located deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to officials, the operation was highly successful, reportedly resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists.
Pakistan’s Response and India’s Counter-Offensive
In response, Pakistan attempted aerial and missile attacks on Indian military positions between May 8 and 10. The Indian Armed Forces responded with a calibrated counter-offensive, targeting several strategic military installations in Pakistan. These included Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian bases, along with radar installations at Pasrur and Sialkot aviation base, which were hit using precision-guided munitions.
Indian Forces Achieved Objectives, Says DGMO
Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai stated that 35–40 Pakistani soldiers were killed during India’s retaliatory action. He also confirmed that India had “achieved its desired objectives” without civilian casualties on either side. The ceasefire understanding reached on May 10 reflects a moment of de-escalation, though forces remain on high alert.
Significance of PM Modi’s Address
Tonight’s address by PM Modi is expected to focus on India’s stance on national security, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward terror, and acknowledging the Indian Armed Forces’ role in the high-impact operation. It may also outline the path forward for regional stability, diplomacy, and defence preparedness.
