Ranchi: In response to the ongoing heavy rainfall and the risk of floods and waterlogging across Jharkhand, Disaster Management Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari held an emergency meeting on Thursday. He directed all District Commissioners (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and concerned departments to remain on high alert and immediately send damage assessment reports.

Monitoring flood risks amid rising river levels

Dr. Ansari stated that based on alerts issued by the Meteorological Department, intense rain in the coming days may cause river water levels to rise, possibly leading to flood-like situations that could disrupt normal life. Districts have already received advisories, and the disaster response teams have been placed on standby.

Temporary closure of schools advised in red alert zones

The minister advised DCs in red alert districts to consider temporarily closing schools to ensure student safety. He also urged wide public dissemination of advisories through media outlets, administrative officials, panchayat representatives, and public communication platforms so that citizens—urban and rural—are informed well in time.

Key points from the government advisory

Stay in safe locations during heavy rains.

Travel only if necessary and drive with caution.

Unplug electrical appliances to avoid damage.

Use mosquito repellents and hygiene measures.

Drink clean water and avoid exposed food items.

Keep an eye on weather alerts and administrative updates.

What to avoid during heavy rains

Avoid entering flooded roads, bridges, underpasses, or drains.

Do not swim or play in floodwaters.

Never use generators indoors.

Avoid contact with fallen electrical wires—report them to authorities.

Stay indoors during extreme rainfall and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
