New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh strongly reacted to Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s controversial remarks comparing India to a shining Mercedes and Pakistan to a sand-filled dump truck. Singh said the comment only exposed Pakistan’s “looter mentality” and reflected an admission of failure.

Munir’s Controversial Analogy

On August 11 during his U.S. visit, General Asim Munir compared India to a Mercedes car and Pakistan to a loaded dump truck, suggesting that if both collided, damage would be inevitable. The analogy sparked widespread criticism in India, with Rajnath Singh interpreting it as Pakistan admitting its own decline.

Rajnath Singh’s Sharp Response

Speaking at the Economic Times World Leaders Forum, Singh said the remark was not a joke but a confession of Pakistan’s weakness. He stressed that Pakistan has been trapped in its exploitative mindset since its inception, and India must continue to break this illusion. Singh highlighted India’s successful Operation Sindoor as proof that such misconceptions should no longer exist in Pakistan’s strategic thinking.

Boost to India’s Defence Capabilities

The Defence Minister also announced significant advancements in India’s air power. He revealed that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received a new order worth ₹66,000 crore to build 97 Tejas fighter jets, in addition to the earlier ₹48,000 crore order for 83 jets. Singh praised Tejas as a symbol of India’s indigenous defence strength and reiterated the nation’s determination to overcome all challenges in building combat aircraft domestically.

Future Plans: Fifth-Generation Aircraft and Engines

Rajnath Singh further informed that India is moving ahead in developing fifth-generation fighter jets and has started work on manufacturing aircraft engines in collaboration with French company Safran. He emphasised that strengthening defence infrastructure is vital to safeguard India’s prosperity, culture, and national honour.
