Veteran Sandalwood actor and art director Mangalore Dinesh, fondly known as Dinesh Ricci, passed away early Monday at his residence in Kundapur, Udupi district. He had been undergoing treatment after suffering a stroke and succumbed to illness following five days of health complications. He is survived by his wife Bharati and sons Pawan and Sajjan.
Career As An Art Director
Born in Kundapur and later settled in Bangalore, Dinesh began his career as an assistant to renowned art director Shashidhar Adapa, contributing to projects like Chinnari Mutha. He established himself as an independent art director with T.S. Nagabharana’s Janumada Jodi and went on to bring his creative expertise to several notable Kannada films, including Veera Madakari, Chandramukhi Pranasakhi, and No. 73 Shantinivasa.
Memorable Screen Performances
In addition to his acclaimed work behind the camera, Dinesh also left a mark as an actor. His portrayal of the Bombay Don in Yash’s blockbuster KGF franchise remains his most recognised role. He also appeared in supporting roles in Harikathe Alla Girikathe, Ranavaru Kandante, Kirik Party, Elo Jagappa Ninna Palace, and Bhuvanam Gaganam. Senior director P. Seshadri remembered him as a friend, artist, and producer while mourning his loss on social media.
