New Delhi: A video allegedly showing Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Masood Ilyas Kashmiri claiming that Masood Azhar’s family was killed during India’s May 7 “Operation Sindoor” air strike in Bahawalpur has surfaced on social media. According to the purported statement, the Indian Army destroyed the JeM hideout, leaving Azhar’s relatives “shredded into pieces.”
Viral Video Claims On Bahawalpur Strike
The clip shows Ilyas lamenting that after years of fighting in Delhi, Kabul, and Kandahar, they had sacrificed everything, only for Azhar’s family to be “destroyed by the Indian forces.” Reports suggest the strike targeted JeM’s headquarters, Markaz Subhan Allah, which satellite images later showed reduced to rubble. Indian sources had previously indicated that top terrorists were among those killed.
Masood Azhar And JeM Background
Masood Azhar, founder of JeM, has been linked to several major terror attacks, including the 2001 Parliament assault, the 2016 Pathankot airbase attack, the 2019 Pulwama bombing, and the 2025 Pahalgam massacre. JeM, formed in the early 2000s, is designated as a terrorist organisation by the UN. The Bahawalpur facility, believed to house Azhar’s family, was reportedly hit during Operation Sindoor, leaving the compound in ruins.
